A man accused of breaking into an electronics store and grabbing in excess of $1 million in items was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation is that between September 18 and 20 Deon George broke and entered Speed Talk Mobile Inc store and stole a quantity of laptop computers, Black-berry cell phones, phone cards and other electronic items valued $1.6 million, property of the proprietor Michael Stern.
The contractor pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court that on the day in question, the complainant secured his business place and left. Upon his return, Harvey said, Stern realized that the eastern wall of the building had been broken and a quantity of supplies missing.
The prosecutor who objected to the accused being granted his pretrial liberty added that the police were later summoned to the scene where fingerprint samples were taken and subsequently the accused was arrested.
The virtual complainant was not present in court.
George was remanded to prison until October 27 for statements.
