Give credit where credit is due

Dear Editor,

Those persons who lost their savings in the Clico fiasco were given a breath of fresh air by Dr Bharrat Jagdeo; they have begun receiving their money as was promised.

This is supposed to be good news; unfortunately many sought to politicize the situation. It should be asked which country in the Caribbean has done this for their Clico policyholders? Guyana continues to be painted with a negative brush for all the wrong reasons.

When Clico collapsed, the blame was laid at the feet of the government. The gripers asked what wouldl happen to the poor people’s money? The answer is that they will be repaid. They then asked where the government would get the money from to repay the policyholders.

It is mind boggling that these folks cannot see beyond their political allegiance and call a spade a spade. Something good has been done, an act that no other country in the Caribbean has done for their people. It’s about time we give credit where credit is due.
Yours faithfully,
Baldeo Mathura
