Robber held after failed stick-up

A man who attempted to rob another yesterday on the East Coast of Demerara was subdued by a group of public-spirited citizens and handed over to the police.

The police said that at approximately 3:10 pm, the suspect approached a 51-year-old foreman of Enmore Estate enquiring about another person, and during the conversation pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the man.  The gun was a .38 special webley revolver which was loaded with one bullet. After a scuffle ensued between the two men, an alarm was raised during which public-spirited citizens subdued the bandit and handed him over to the police, who responded promptly.

The suspect, police said, is “a known character” who resides at Queenstown, Essequibo and Bare Roots, East Coast Demerara. Police said that the man is expected to be arraigned shortly.
