Region Three wants state to ‘reintroduce’ hanging

According to a press release the unanimous decision came as the RDC was deliberating on its Crime Prevention Committee report at its statutory meeting on Wednesday. The report noted the upsurge in serious crime across Guyana and particularly the recent brutal murder of teenager Neesa Lalita Gopaul.

The RDC noted too that notwithstanding the laws enacted to deal with domestic violence, women continue to be victimised. It also agreed to invite other stakeholders to a forum to initiate a plan of action to deal with crime and domestic violence. The council lamented that the society seemed to have degenerated into a jungle where decency is no longer valued.

Councillors were also apprised of the metrication system by Hemraj Sanichara, Metrication Officer at the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS). He also informed the meeting about the services the GNBS offers.
