Skeldon meets sugar target for 2nd week in a row

Workers attached to the Guyana Sugar Corporation’s Skeldon factory have qualified for an extra day’s pay after the factory achieved its weekly production target for the second consecutive week.

According to a release from the corporation, the workers were commended and encouraged to continue maximizing on the current weather pattern to ensure the Skeldon factory achieves its second crop sugar target.

The release stated that the corporation is confident that there is a sufficient supply of canes on the estates and the factory will continue to process the canes to achieve the second crop target.

The goal, however, depends heavily on the continuation of a good turnout by workers, the release stated, as well as good weather patterns until year end.

At the same time, the estate has continued to supply power to the Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) from its co-generation facility, making use of bagasse as the fuel to generate electricity. Residents along the East Coast of Demerara as far as Mahaica from the Corentyne have benefitted from power supplied by the factory, the release stated.
