Linden man shot dead

The body of 21-year-old Leroy Colin Cornelius of 2834 Central Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden was found on a farm at Moblissa along the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway bearing a single gunshot wound.

The man is believed to have been involved in an incident which resulted in a 57-year-old man being hospitalised at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC). According to reliable sources, Cornelius and two others allegedly attacked Zeerapan John of Callender Street, Albouystown at his Moblissa farm on Sunday.

It was reported that the three had frequently taunted John calling him ‘Ole Higue’ and on Sunday they attacked the man, lashing him in the head with a bottle and dealing him multiple chops and cuts about the body.

“They tell he they gon beat de demon outta he. They does always molest de man,” said a farmer from the area who refused to give his name.

Speaking from his LHC bed, John said that he knew the three men well as one of them was his relative. He added that as two of the men were chopping him the other choked him by the neck and was asking for his gun. John, a licenced firearm holder, said he managed to get hold of his weapon and fired a round.

“I can’t remember everything, all I know is dem neighbour fetchin me to de hospital like ah get blackout,” John moaned from his hospital bed.

Sunday’s incident was reported to at the Mackenzie Police Station and yesterday acting on information ranks went into the area and discovered the body around 8 pm on the Moblissa farm.
