Chambers earmarking Rupununi and Linden as hubs for inter-regional trade

The Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and the Linden Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Development (LCICD) are seeking to make the two towns hubs for inter-regional trade between Brazil and the Caribbean.

In the meantime they have agreed to establish ways in which they can encourage and develop more business interests while stimulating business cooperation and networks between the two towns.

The RCCI and the LCICD recently reached agreement on mutual commercial cooperation and development as they  advocate for more business interests in the two regions.

Leaders of the sister organizations said that this declaration resulted from their recognition of the need to explore mutual commercial concerns and opportunities identified during an informal gathering at Lethem, when members of the Linden Chamber participated at the Guyana/Brazil cultural festival.

The RCCI and the LCICD met recently at Kurupukari where they discussed the need for both chambers to collaborate in efforts to foster growth and development in their respective regions. They also agreed that there can be more strength in advocating and lobbying for common causes through the shared efforts of the Chambers of Linden and Rupununi.

The declaration includes a  plan to make an infrastructure proposal to the Guyana government to improve maintenance programmes and to seek to access work programmes and increase funding.
President of the RCCI, Alfred Ramsarran while at the signing ceremony noted that the maintenance of the road needs to be improved since it is hindering the expansion of trade between Brazil and Guyana as well as between Rupununi and Linden.

“Once we have proper roads that will bring down the cost of our goods, we will be able to fetch more goods in less time, less wear and tear with these vehicles and trucks and so on,” said Ramsarran.

Pointing out some of the key objectives of the declaration, Linden Enterprise Network (LEN) Business and Investment Services Advisor, Tina Horslen stressed  that they would be diligent in their efforts to improve ties with Brazil and emphasis would be placed on the promotion of tourism and  agriculture, as well as safe and healthy environments.
