The Ministry of Housing and Water yesterday signed a $24.7M contract for the rehabilitation of a half-mile stretch of road in Block R Sophia.
The Government Informa-tion Agency said that this intervention came following a meeting between several residents and the Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali on August 14, at the PPP’s headquarters, Freedom House.
Senior Engineer – Central Housing and Planning Authority, Fazal Wahab had told GINA that work on the road was scheduled to commence in two weeks. However, the contractor has committed to commence work today and has promised to complete the road before Christmas. The contract was awarded to Cleon Chung of Chung’s Global Enterprises.
Wahab noted that the Ministry also has other ongoing work in Sophia. This includes the allocation of $600M
and $400M for work in Sections A, B and C Sophia and Cummings Lodge, respectively. A new well is also under construction in the vicinity of the University of Guyana.
