PNCR pickets Manickchand’s ministry over Neesa

Seven persons from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) yesterday staged a protest in front of the Ministry of Human Services to register their concerns over what they said was the failure of the ministry to deal with the welfare of the nation’s children.

The group from the PNCR as they protested in front of the Ministry of Human Services yesterday.

In particular, they made reference to the Neesa Gopaul case and charged that it was the persons in charge of the social sector who had failed the child. One protestor, Ms. Pinder said this case showed the failure of the Minister.

Another carried a suitcase with a doll peeking out, which symbolised the infamous case and placed it in front of the gate to the ministry. Gopaul was murdered earlier this month and her body stuffed into a suitcase and left on the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway. Two people have since been charged.

“The protest is to highlight the social ills in the country,” said Troy Garraway, another of the protestors whose placard had the words “Stop the blame game, Priya.” He added that the persons who are responsible for the children’s welfare were not being punished. “In cases like these they become the issue of the day, then they die away,” he said.

Meanwhile, the group plans to continue their action until definitive action is taken by the Ministry to deal with their concerns.
