Jamaica cops get dressing down over clothes

(Jamaica Observer) Police Commissioner Owen Ellington has ordered members of the constabulary to dress and conduct themselves more professionally. Ellington said the shabby dressing of some members reflects negatively on the image of the Force and represents a breach of force directives.

“Commanding officers are required to communicate to their members the importance of professional attire, deportment and conduct especially whilst on duty,” Ellington wrote in this week’s force orders. Cops from the Mobile Reserve and Operations Support Teams at divisional and area headquarters, will be issued with specially designed denim suits.

The denim suit replaces all denims previously worn and commanding officers may authorise the wearing of denim for cell guard duties.

“Personnel wearing denim suits must have badges of rank and other insignia prominently displayed. All other uniformed police personnel must wear working dress which for rank and file personnel is the white striped shirts and seamed trousers or skirts/trousers for females,” the report stated.
