On the East Coast and Berbice/Corentyne, West Coast/Essequibo, East Bank, West Bank, a median one-foot wide should be erected where the road is broad enough so as to avoid collisions with oncoming traffic. This is very important and it will prevent 90% of road accidents. It will prevent overtaking and head-on collisions.
Where there are speed limits that are low, eg, Grove to Georgetown, these should be increased to 60 kph to prevent the backing up of traffic and lessen the need for a police presence.
The area where the one-foot median is to be put should be identified by drivers and policemen.
But I feel all major roads should have a median (one foot) at least to prevent vehicles from overtaking.
Another point of concern is the entrance to the Diamond New Scheme where a three foot pavement is needed for pedestrians and cyclists, with an exit around the DDL area.
With the increase in vehicles there will be more accidents unless the above is done as soon as possible. It could be tried on the Corentyne first.
Drivers should maintain speeds not below or above 50 kph.
