UK unveils new steps to cut immigration

(BBC) The British government has announced new measures to reduce immigration.

The number of skilled workers who’ll be allowed into Britain from outside the European Union is to be capped at 21,000 a year — a considerable reduction on the present figure.

The restrictions will not apply to relatively high-earners who are transferred to Britain by their employer.

The government is also cutting the number of people allowed into Britain to study.

The Home Secretary, Theresa May, said the aim was to reduce annual immigration from hundreds of thousands to tens of thousands.
