Gov’t meets Slovenian firm on tracking equipment for crime fight

Government is weighing the utilization of highly technological coding and tracking equipment to combat the new and emerging security challenges in Guyana.

A Government Information Agency (GINA) release stated that Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee and heads of the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defence Force, Guyana Prison and Fire Services, Guyana Revenue Authority, Civil Defence Commission, the Private Sector and other relevant agencies on Thursday met with representatives of the EMA Group, a Slovenian company that deals with manufacturing high-profile tracking equipment.

The EMA group consists of three companies in three countries – Slovenia, Hungary, and Croatia. Over the last 17 years,the company has become the leading marking, coding, and traceability specialists in Eastern Europe, the release said.

During the meeting which was held in the boardroom at the Home Affairs Ministry  EMA’s agent for English-speaking countries, Chris Eckersley conducted a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the benefits that companies in Guyana can derive with the use of such technology.

Meanwhile, Business Development Manager Marko Sjekloca expressed his government’s desire to foster stronger ties with Guyana and explained that the cost of the equipment will be covered through a special loan plan that the Slovenian Government will work out with other major financial institutions

He also assured that this financing offer will be made available to all government and private commercial agencies, the release concluded.
