Red House readings continue

The Red House’s monthly discussion series on Dr Cheddi Jagan’s The West on Trial continued this week with a mini-lecture on chapters 9 and 10 by Charles Ramson Jr, to a crowd of mainly younger people, many of whom had not read the book.

Ramson, an attorney, spoke on the relevance of the 1961 events today, according to a press release from Red House. The release said that he focused on how the country’s economic independence and fledging industialisation was stymied by those opposed to such moves during that period, in addition to the racial tensions which were raging at the time.

The monthly discussion series continues next year with chapters 11 and 12 on January 13, 2011. Persons are encouraged to read the chapters and join the Red House session.

Red House also announced that it would be launching an essay competition for children under 12 on chapter 2 of the book in the New Year.
