St. Monica man accused of Mabura killing after drunken brawl

Kester Miguel, who is accused of stabbing chainsaw operator Clive Williams to death after a drunken brawl at 23 Miles Mabura, Region 10, was remanded to prison yesterday.

Miguel, a labourer of St. Monica, Pomeroon, was arraigned on a murder charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He was not required to enter a plea to the capital offense when the charge was read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

It is alleged that between December 7 and 8, Miguel murdered Clive Williams. Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that during the periods mentioned in the charge, Miguel and Williams were drinking. Williams allegedly kicked a man, whose name was give as Moses, resulting in a fight.

According to Telford, Miguel parted the fight and Moses retired to his nearby hammock. Telford further explained to the court that Williams, who became annoyed after being separated from Moses, whipped out a knife and attacked Miguel, who managed to relieve him of the weapon. Miguel then stabbed Williams in the abdomen, mortally wounding him, Telford said.

Miguel was remanded and the matter was transferred to the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court for December 14.
