Two more witnesses in the Guyana Power and Light stolen transformer case on Monday testified before Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Tow of the accused, David Jones and Rajesh Sanchara were present for the proceeding and no explanation was given for the absence of Ganesh Ramlall, the owner of Regent Multiplex Mall.
Maurice Woolford in his testimony recalled that Jones approached him with a request for electricity supply at the Mall. He had in his possession four letters which appeared to have been signed by Ramlall.
Woolford said that he advised Jones that only one letter was needed and this was later handed over to him.
The GPL employee who was at the time acting as the manager of the System planning and design unit said that he made arrangements to have a 500 KVA transformer tested on November 5, 2008.
Later during a telephone conversation, Jones informed him that “there was a problem with the transformer and that was the extent of my conversation”.
When the manager, Shaun Hamlet returned to work, the matter was handed over to her, Woolford told the court.
Hamlet also testified on Monday. She said that an application for electricity was being processed in her absence and when she returned to work she just completed the process.
It is alleged that between October 27 and November 17, 2008 the trio conspired with other persons to steal one KVA transformer belonging to GPL valued at $4,140,000. The transformer was stolen from the GPL Sophia location and was found installed at the then newly built Regent Multiplex mall at the corner of Wellington and Regent streets.
