Man fined $3,000 for medical ganja use

A man who told the court that he uses cannabis to treat tuberculosis and other ailments was yesterday fined $3,000 and ordered to serve six months community service for having the illegal substance in his possession.

Troy Harris admitted to the charge of possession of narcotics. The charge stated that on December 23, Harris had in his possession two grammes of cannabis.

Harris told the court that he found using cannabis to be very useful to treat his tuberculosis and other conditions. He added that his daily dose is a “cork-full” of the substance. “Meh worship de thing [cannabis] does really help meh…, yuh know?” Harris peacefully explained.

After hearing the case, the magistrate ordered Harris to pay the fine and to serve community service.
