Ramcharitar pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraudulent conversion when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.   The case was transferred to the Mahdia  Magistrate’s Court for April 21.

Ramcharitar denied that on January 28, he was solely entrusted with 15 pennyweights of raw gold and $40,000 cash, totalling $206,000 in value, by Marcelle Griffith so that he could deliver same to Collin Glasgow but he fraudulently converted them to his own use and benefit.

His lawyer Patrice Henry applied for reasonable bail, stating that his client had been arrested and kept in police custody since Sunday. He also stated that his client poses no risk of flight and would  return to court when required to.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford made no objections to the bail application but requested that it be granted in a substantial amount.

Ramcharitar was later escorted out of the court by a policeman.
