Gold jewellery theft accused remanded

Sherwin Adams, a bartender, pleaded not guilty to a larceny from the person charge which stated that on January 29 he stole a gold bangle valued $40,000 from Omattie Jaikarran.

He applied for bail stating that he had been incarcerated for a week subsequent to his arrest.

He was subsequently granted $20,000 bail and is scheduled to make another court appearance on March 16.

Meanwhile, Orlando Arthur entered a not guilty plea to a similar charge which stated that on January 25, he stole a gold chain valued $200,000 from Carletta Abrams.

Abrams, who was also present in court, stated that she was seated in a bus at the bus park when Arthur approached the bus window and snatched her chain.

She said that her husband, who was with her at the time, chased after Arthur who immediately fled the scene only to bump into her cousin.

She said that she had called her cousin and told him about the incident and  he explained to her that someone fitting Arthur’s description had just bumped into him and  he had gotten a good look at his face.

Arthur was arrested two days after Abrams had  reported the matter.

However, Arthur stated that he was on his way home when he was told of the allegation by the police and arrested.

He stated that he knew nothing about the stolen chain.

The prosecution objected to Arthur’s bail application when he suggested it and told the court that the chain was not recovered.

Arthur is scheduled to make another court appearance on February 17 at Court Ten.
