Conductor remanded over knife attack on brothers

A bus conductor was remanded to prison on Monday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged with attempted murder and unlawful wounding.

Calvin Johnson of 145 East Ruimveldt was not required to plead to the charges which stated  that on April 26 at Georgetown, he stabbed Shawn Atkins in the region of the heart and slashed Leon Atkins on the left side of his neck.

The facts state that Shawn and Leon are brothers, and are the driver and conductor of a minibus respectively.  It is alleged that on the day in question, the brothers and Johnson had a quarrel over passengers when he pulled out a knife and inflicted the injuries.

Police Prosecutor Inspec-tor Stephen Telford objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and the fear that Johnson might be a flight risk.

He was then remanded and the matter put down for June 9.
