Repairs to Light House to start next week

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications says rehabilitation works at the Demerara Light House are set to start next week.

Chief Building Officer at the ministry Alvin Thorne said the contractor is currently expediting preliminary works, according to a Government Information Agency (GINA) statement. He said the contract to effect the repairs was awarded to Andre Howard Construction Services for the sum of $11,074,025.

Thorne said the works involve repairing and repainting walls, metal works and the stairs. “In addition all facilities and furnishings will be upgraded and the external areas and immediate environs will be improved,” he said.
