Mahaica policeman chopped over old feud

A detective constable is nursing a fractured skull and other injuries after he was brutally attacked by a man he had a previous dispute with on Wednesday night. Police are looking for the assailant.

Parashuram Samsundar of River View, Mahaica is a patient of the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Hospital and according to a senior police officer, his condition is listed as serious but stable. Samsundar is attached to the Cove and John Police Station.

The officer explained that around 6:45 pm, the suspect blocked Samsundar’s path with a tree and then chopped him several times about the body before fleeing the scene. Stabroek News was told that the suspect who also lives in the River View area had a dispute with Samsundar last September.

When contacted last evening relatives said that they were not there when the incident took place. They said that they did not have any information on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
