On Wednesday the East Coast Demerara community of Triumph was rocked by the attack and subsequent suicide of Latchmin’s husband, Subhash Chan Mohabir.

Mohabir, 49, of 66-67 Agriculture Road, Triumph died at the Georgetown Hospital around 5 pm, hours after he had consumed an unknown poison. Shortly before that, the popular poultry farmer had savagely chopped his wife with a knife and cutlass in the presence of the couple’s children.

Relatives and friends of the couple have said that they are puzzled as to what might have sparked the attack which occurred at 10:30 am Wednesday. This newspaper has since learnt that Mohabir was in the habit of threatening his wife but she never made a report to the police.
