Fazeer to co-host Morning Edition in January

(Trinidad Express) Former Caribbean New Media Group (CNMG) talk-show host, Fazeer Mohammed, has moved on to One Caribbean Media’s (OCM) TV6.

Mohammed is expected to appear as a co-host of TV’s popular Morning Edition talk-show by January next year.

The former host of First Up has been the centre of controversy for the last week after being fired last Friday.

Mohammed was told he was being canned as part of a cost-cutting measure but his sacking occurred shortly after an interview he conducted with Foreign Affairs Minister, Suruj Rambachan, during which the two had a heated discussion.

During the exchange, Mohammed, responding to questions by Rambachan said his religion Islam did not condone women in leadership positions.

Supporters of Mohammed, media workers and activists have since condemned the firing, saying it was politically motivated.

Asked about the move yesterday, Mohammed said his new position was more of a return to familiar territory, as he once hosted Morning Edition in 2005 as well as the Friday show, Sporting Edition, for some time.

Mohammed also wrote a long-running sport column for the Express before moving to CNMG. He disclosed that he was in fact approached by OCM over a month ago, to consider returning to Morning Edition.

Mohammed said he informed his then employer, CNMG, of the discussions but eventually declined to move as he felt “comfortable” at CNMG.

“I have now given a firm commitment to OCM,” Mohammed said.

Head of TV6 News, Dominic Kalipersad, said yesterday that the TV Group is pleased to have Mohammed on board.

“I am certain that he will bring with him a great deal of professionalism and experience and will be an asset to OCM,” Kalipersad said.
