Residents of Melanie North, East Coast Demerara yesterday managed to avert a major disaster after one of two children left at home alone started a fire.
A senior police officer said that the children were left at home alone by their grandfather around 8:30 am. One of the children, a three-year-old, later struck a match and started a fire in one of the bedrooms.
Quick action by residents, the officers said contained the damage to the bedroom. The children were rescued.
