T&T selectors drop Mohammed

The 30-year-old Mohammed has picked up just two wickets in three games so far this season and has lost favour with the selection panel, which is led by former West Indies Under-19 captain Dudnath Ramkessoon and including Rangy Nanan, Narine Bideshi, Bernard Julien and Alec Burns.

Fit-again young batsmen Adrian Barath and Darren Bravo are included in the 14-man squad, which will be trimmed to 13 ahead of Friday’s start at Queen’s Park Oval.

Both players are yet to feature in the current regional first class season because of injury.

Speaking to CMC Sport earlier in the week, Barath said his recovery had gone well and that he was anxious to return to competitive cricket.

“I have been doing some batting and my regular exercises and hopefully I will get in a local game for my club. I am still receiving therapy and regular treatment from my doctor Anil Gopiesingh and physio Asha De Freitas.

“I am definitely targeting play against the Windward Islands when T&T comes up against them at the Oval,” he said

Barath damaged his hamstring towards the end of the West Indies tour of Australia in 2009 and has been out of action since December.

Meanwhile, the left-handed Bravo, who represented the West Indies against England in the limited overs series in the Caribbean last year, has passed his fitness test and is ready for action following a shoulder injury.

Trinidad and Tobago, idle this weekend while the other teams are contesting fifth-round matches in Guyana, are fourth in the standings with 21 points after four matches.

The Windwards are behind T&T in fifth with 16 points.

Reigning champions Jamaica lead the standings with 36 points from three outright wins, followed by Barbados (33) and Combined Campuses and Colleges (24)
