National Twenty20 team gets the better of Select XI

The National Twenty20 side pulled off a 22-run victory over a Guyana Cricket Board Select XI at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence yesterday in a warm up game for the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Caribbean Twenty20 championships in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.

The national side, led by Ramnaresh Sarwan, restricted the GCB Select XI to 148-2 from their allotted overs.

Assad Fudadin was not out on 49, which included three fours and a six from 38 balls while Steven Jacobs scored an unbeaten 46 from 36 balls with three boundaries.

Openers Trevon Griffith and Richard Ramdeen contributed 20 (1×4) and 18 (1×4, 1×6) respectively.

Spinners Devendra Bishoo and Narsingh Deonarine were the only wicket takers with 1-32 and 1-33 off four overs each for the national side.

Earlier, Sarwan top scored for his team with 36 while five of his batsmen got starts in front of an empty stadium and on a hot day as the national team posted 171 from their 20 overs.

Sarwan’s knock included three fours and a six from 26 balls while Deonarine (25), Christopher Barnwell (24) and Travis Dowlin (17) all got off to good starts.

Lennox Cush and Jonathan Foo were both unbeaten on 20 when the innings ended.

Off spinner Deon Ferrier, who has not found favour with selectors, was the chief wicket taker with 3-27 while fast medium bowler Paul Wintz took 2-35 and off-spinner Jacobs, 1-21.
