In a keenly contested scratch-race start, participants were on the hunt to grab a chance to make it to the upcoming nationals. And all eyes were on nationals athlete Carl Lewis as he surged into the lead. Lewis went neck and neck with second place finisher Steven Grant for the first 100m of the race then in the final 100m he took over convincingly, leaving  Grant to battle third place finisher Sebastian Anthon.

Lewis’ 200m display followed his earlier victory in  his 100m heats.

In other finals yesterday,  the girls open 3,000m was won by Adama Roberts, who finished ahead of nationals athlete Carlissa Atkinson and Ayesha Bovell respectively.

And in the junior age categories, Reyana Thomas lost the girls under-10 800m to Roshana Ratimiah as  Ratimiah smartly edged her at the finishing line. After being in the lead for most of the race, Thomas was about to declare herself the winner as she decelerated mere inches before the finishing line when Ratimiah seized the opportunity in a brisk dash past her to take the win.  The boys under-10 1,000m was won by Michael George ahead of Quan Wilson and Colin John respectively.
