Sahadeo century aids Floodlights to five-wicket win over Sports Ministry

A century from Tulsie Sahadeo aided the Floodlights Softball Cricket team to secure a five-wicket win over the Ministry of Sports (MoS).

According to a press release, the match which formed part of the General Marines Softball Cricket Competition was held on Friday night at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) – Carifesta Complex ground, Carifesta Avenue.

In the 25-overs-a-side affair, the MoS side scored 181–8 off their allotted 25 overs with Bashir Khan scoring a half century.

Kamal Khan (33) and Patrick Stewart (32) were also among the runs for the Ministry of Sport’s team.
Bowling for Floodlights Mike Singh took the best bowler award with 4-28 from five overs.

In reply Sahadeo scored an even century (100) as Floodlights reached 183– 6 in 22.2 overs.
Deryck Ramoutar chipped in with 40.

There were two wickets apiece for Alfred King and Dale France.
In a female 10-overs-a-side match, the Wellwoman Softball cricket team romped their way to a 39-run win over the Lusignan Street Warriors.

Batting first, Wellwoman reached 93–1 at the end of their allotted 10 overs with
Abena Parker top scoring with 38.

Other useful scores came from Joan Van Sertima, 28, and Akeze Thompson, 22.
The Warriors in reply crashed to 54 all out with Anita Ramdeo’s 19 runs, the top score.
Victoria Bacchus bagged 4-22 for Wellwoman and was adjudged player of the match.
Following the match trophies, compliments of the Trophy Stall were presented to the two teams.
Trophy Stall boss Ramesh Sunich expressed satisfaction with the good relationship between the MoS and the Guyana Floodlights Cricket Association, which had organized the tournament.
Sunich pledged his continued support to future competitions.

Permanent Secretary in the MoS, King, thanked Sunich for the sponsorship and expressed the hope that similar competitions would emerge.

He also pledged that the MCYS ground would be used by Floodlights whenever it is available, the release added.
