Trevon Griffith notches up another first division century

West Indies under-19 opener Trevon Griffith notched up another first division century for Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) over the weekend while his teammate Totaram Bishun again took over 10 wickets in the Carib Beer Heroes Cup two-day first division cricket competition at the Queenstown ground.

Griffith hit 168 and Bishun had a match haul of 13 wickets as DCC defeated Police on Sunday. Bishun, bowling left arm spin, bamboozled his opponents once again with 5-42 in the first innings and 8-45 in the second as Police were beaten by an innings and 126 runs.

Police were bowled out for 143 in their first innings with Jason Heyliger contributing 55 and Raul Browne,  33. Bishun was backed up by Christopher Barnwell who took 2-12.

DCC piled on 397-6 declared in response with Griffith’s century, Andrew Lyght’s 76, Leroy Primo’s 68 and 65 from Barnwell being the bedrock of the innings.
Police suffered another batting collapse when they were dismissed for 128 in their second innings with only Heyliger (24) and Cecil Adams (21) reaching 20.
Over at the Everest ground, Camp Road, Chanderpaul Hemraj also hammered 148 after former national youth pacer Leon Scott took 5-61 to help Everest to an innings and 25-run victory over Transport Sports Club (TSC).

Scott’s figures of 5-61 and Abilash Deokie’s 2-23 ensured TSC fell for a miserly 102; Simeion Sam was the top scorer with 21. When Everest replied Hemraj got support from Troy Gonsalves, who made 58, as Everest made 312 while TSC’s Kevin Ross took three wickets and Azim Azeez, two.

TSC were set 195 to avoid an innings defeat but were bowled out for 170 despite a fighting 87 from Steven Alves and 22 from Carl Rambarose; Gonsalves was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.

Over at the Bourda ground Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), despite their Captain Steven Jacobs’ 46 in both innings and 7-35, lost to Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) by 115 runs. A last session hat-trick from spinner Ricardo Jadunauth also helped to sink the MSC.

Jacobs spearheaded the attack in the first innings with assistance from leg-spinner Steven Sankar (2-13) to bowl out GCC for 117. Vishal Singh top scored for GCC with 24. MSC did not do any better and were bowled out for 89 in 29.1 overs.

GCC’s Jadunauth took 4-19 while Leon Johnson had 3-26 and Chindanand Shivram returned figures of 2-18 for GCC. GCC, in their second innings, made 250-6 with former Guyana under-19 opener Jeetendra Sookdeo top scoring with 86 while Jadunauth (49), Robin Bacchus (32) and Johnson (25) added support.

MSC were set 279 to win but only mustered 164 with Narayan (56) and Jacobs (46) being the principal scorers. Jadunauth removed Carlos La Rose, Jermaine Joseph and Quacy Nedd in three balls to finish with 4-35 while Shivram had 2-9.
