Alika Morgan sets up donation of ‘champion girl’ trophy

In light of the upcoming 50th  hosting of the classic  event at the National Stadium from November 9 – 12, the company took up the idea of sponsoring the trophy in honour of Morgan’s contribution to the event in  the past.

Effective from this year the trophy will be given to the first champion girl who is capable of accumulating three consecutive champion girl titles at the celebrated meet. Speaking with Stabroek Sport yesterday, Morgan said that she  and her coach had discussed it and thought that it was about time that they did something for the event, so Chung’s Global was approached to sponsor the trophy and grasped at the opportunity.

“This was something that my coach and I sat down and planned because we see it fitting to give back something to Nationals because I was a part of it for so long, for nine years. And we just wanted to do a little something, so I just want to say thank you to Chung’s Global Enterprise for being a part of this,” Morgan said

According to Morgan, the trophy was handed over to the president of the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) Colin Bynoe at the GTU Office, Woolford Avenue, on Tuesday.

Speaking on behalf of Global Enterprise, Secretary Miriam Spooner said that the company was very happy with the idea and so when they were approached to sponsor the trophy they immediately complied.

“We just feel good about being able to give something to the event,” Spooner said.
