Prime Minister, team scouting sites for new Mahaica market

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and a team recently inspected a number of possible sites for the construction of a new market at Mahaica.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Hinds was accompanied by Head of the Privatisation Unit Winston Brassington, Independent Surveying and Civil Engineering Consultant Ralph Choo-shee-nam and others. He told GINA that a decision has been made to construct a new building for stallholders and funds have been allocated for the project. However, he noted that consultations are still being conducted.

GINA said the Prime Minister also interacted with a number of villagers during the walkabout. Several of them voiced concerns about being relocated from the reserve and said that moving to a new location may put a damper on their businesses. Hinds assured them that all their concerns will be addressed before a decision is taken.
