Absent defence lawyers delay Neesa Gopaul PI

The continuation of the preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of Neesa Gopaul was yesterday postponed due to the absence of defence attorneys Bernard De Santos and Vic Puran when the matter was called.

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who is presiding over the PI at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, adjourned the proceedings to January 11.
Six witnesses have testified so far.

Neesa’s mother, Bibi Sharima Gopaul and her (Bibi’s) lover Jarvis Small have been charged with the sixteen-year-old’s murder.

It is alleged that between September 24 and October 2, at Madewini, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, Bibi Sharima Gopaul and Small, both of 13 Public Road Leonora, West Coast Demerara, murdered the girl. Her body was stuffed into a suitcase, which was discovered by a group of picnickers on October 2, anchored in the creek at the Emerald Tower Resort.
