GCB elections might not be held January 30

A source from the Registrar of Friendly Societies says that their accounting specialists will be perusing the documents of the Guyana Cricket Board with a “fine teeth comb” adding that it is unlikely that elections will be held this week-end as scheduled.

According to the source, who said that much information cannot be divulged, the hawkeyed scrutiny is being conducted especially because of what “is being peddled” in the press.

The source also reported that all the documentation that was required by the Registrar was submitted last Friday, with the last piece being the annual returns. These were submitted by accounting firm Barcellos, Narine and Company. These documents, after review by the company, were passed to the Registrar, which is a requirement under the Friendly Societies Act, Chapter 36:04, under the Laws of Guyana.

The source indicated that the specialists will be looking to ensure that the documents are in compliance with the Friendly Societies Act. It was noted though that if there are irregularities, then appointed persons will have to meet with the executive of the GCB, which is reeling under a wave of scandals.

In such a situation, the elections of the GCB will not be held on January 30. The source indicated that everything has to be in order before an elections date can be determined. Further, when audit reports and annual returns are submitted to the registrar they are processed and officially released before any legally constituted Annual General Meeting can be held, giving eight days notice for such a meeting.
Currently, according to the source, the documents are still being processed.
