Woman fined $25,000 for taking cell phone into prison

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday ordered a woman to pay a fine of $25,000 for attempting to sneak an illegal object into the Camp Street Prison.

Anastacia Norville, who appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, pleaded guilty to taking a cellular phone without legal authority into the Camp Street Prison on January 24.
The accused was fined $25,000 or three months imprisonment.
