Grenada criticises Jamaica’s CCJ stance

(BBC) Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has labelled as ‘strange’, a suggestion from the Jamaican leader Bruce Golding that Kingston opt for its own court of appeal, instead of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

Mr Thomas says Jamaica’s argument that there would be political interference in the body, and therefore would like to have their own independent Court of Justice does not make any logical sense.

He said having a domestic court of appeal leaves more room for greater political interference, and added that there should be more collective confidence in the ability of regional judges to hand down unbiased judgments.
