Fined for assault of sister

Roy Cascius, who on January 5 was placed before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with assaulting his older sister Zoe Cascius after arguing about the use of a blender, was yesterday ordered to pay a $25,000 fine or spend two weeks in jail.

The decision was handed down by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, after a probation report on the case was presented to the court.
Roy Cascius, 46, had admitted that on January 3, at 228 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, he assaulted his older sister Zoe. When he made his initial appearance on January 5, he was placed on $40,000 bail and a probation report was ordered.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford had informed the court that the siblings, who share the 228 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme home, had an argument on the day in question over the use of a blender.

Telford stated that the defendant got annoyed and dealt his sister one blow to the eye, causing a tooth to become dislodged.
The man, who said that he was sorry for hitting his sister, told the court that he was unaware that he had hit the woman with such severity.
