Teacher beaten in cutlass attack out of ICU

A few days after regaining consciousness Shaunell Warrick has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit to the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Although not yet able to speak the mother of two and a teacher at the East Street Nursery School is responding by shaking her head indicating yes and no to questions. Yesterday when this newspaper visited Warrick she had a tube attached to her throat. When asked if she was feeling okay she shook her head in a positive motion.

On New Year’s Day, Warrick was allegedly beaten by Rudolph London, her on-and-off companion of over 15 years. The man allegedly used a cutlass to beat Warrick and she sustained a fractured skull.

She was attacked at London’s home.

London, 39, of 109 Best Village, West Coast Demerara, has since appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted murder. The man was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.

His mother had told the court that he was receiving psychiatric treatment.
