Driver denies stealing woman’s Blackberry

A man yesterday appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on  a charge of simple larceny.
It is alleged that on January 27 at Carmichael Street, Georgetown, Eon Clarke stole one Blackberry cellular phone valued $60,000 from Joycelyn Lorry.
In presenting the facts of the case, the prosecutor told the court that the virtual complainant hired the defendant to take her to several locations. At one stop, the VC left her purse in the vehicle while she went on her errand. Upon her return, she checked the bag and found the phone missing.

Clarke said that he was being blamed although there were other persons in the vehicle at the time.

Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry initially placed the man on bail in the sum of $45,000 but reduced it to $25,000 after the accused said that’s all that he could  afford. The matter was transferred to Court Three for report and fixture on February 7.
