Man had ganja in a barrel at home

A man was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court accused of being in possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

It is alleged that on February 2, Seon Richmond had in his possession 211 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

In presenting the facts of the case, the prosecutor told the court that on the day in question police officers were on mobile patrol when they saw the defendant walking and he aroused their suspicion.

A search was conducted on his person but nothing was found.

However, upon receiving information, the suspect’s home was searched and the illegal substance was reportedly found in a barrel.

The defendant was told of the offence and he was arrested.
Richmond, who was unrepresented, was remanded and the case was transferred to Christianburg Magistrate’s Court for February 15.
