Republic anniversary fundraising gala billed for Central Florida

The Guyanese American community in Central Florida will this year celebrate Guyana’s 41st Republic anniversary with the annual fundraising gala on February 19.

According to a press release from the Guyanese American Cultural Association of Central Florida (GACACF), the event will be held at the historic ballroom at Church Street in Downtown Orlando.

Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the Linden Fund, the GACACF Scholarship Fund, and charities in Berbice and Essequibo, among other projects.

In the past years since 2005, proceeds have helped the Dharm Shala in New Amsterdam, Uncle Eddie’s Home in Georgetown, a children’s sanctuary on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, besides the donation of medicines valued at US$20,000 to a medical outreach mission to Guyana.
The release said that the guest-of-honour and keynote speaker at the gala will be Dr Vincent Adams, the highest ranking Guyanese American serving in the United States Federal Government.

Among other persons to be honoured at the event are Commander Russell Permaul of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office; Eldon Bremner, General Manager of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel; and Urla King, a medical specialist and community worker in Central Florida.

This event will be sponsored by Laparkan Shipping, Caribbean Supercenter Supermarket, Sea World, Luxury Ridges Inc, Seafreight Agencies, and the Highland Agency.
