Gardener critical after Sheriff St hit-and-run

A 67-year-old gardener is hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital in a critical state after being stuck by a hit-and-run driver last Wednesday.

Ganesh Jaikarran of Lot 18 Sophia is on a life-support machine in the Intensive Care Unit of the medical institution. Relatives said that his chance of survival was given as 50/50 and he has been unconscious since the accident. Jaikarran’s wife, Jean, told Stabroek News that her husband was riding to work on his bicycle at about 5:30 am last Wednesday when he was struck down close to Home Hardware on Sheriff Street. She said that the vehicle that hit him drove away and police have not paid much attention to investigating the incident. “Nobody want to come forward with information but people see”, she said.

She noted that after her husband was rushed to the hospital, the police came and asked some questions but there was never a follow-up from the law enforcement officials. She said that it was a friend of Jaikarran who notified them of the incident. Jaikarran suffered head injuries, his left foot is also broken and he also sustained various other injuries.

“It really bad that they just licking you and go”, lamented a relative. They are appealing for the police to investigate the incident and witnesses to come forward.
