Linden’s Stag Beer inter-ward football action packed on opening night

The Linden/Georgetown bus park was a  hive of activity last weekend when  the Young Achievers 20/20 Sports Bar kicked off its Stag Beer Inter-Ward street football tournament.

Some 18 teams were on show battling for the top prize of $200,000 with the  runners-up expected to pocket $100,000 while the third place finishers will get $50,000. The tournament is being sponsored by Ansa McAl under their Stag Beer Brand.

Tournament organizer Anthony White stated that he was pleased with the supporter turn-out that filled the venue.

Some of the sport’s local stars in Linden, turned out in full force to represent their respective communities and tonight, playing at the same venue, more excitement is being promised.

In the opening game from 4:30 pm, Mines United will face Hill Top/West Watooka Rockers; Christianburg All-Stars are down to square off against Silvertown Bullets and Excitement Boys#2 coming up against Topp Class some of highlighted matches.

On the opening night of the tournament, Constab Celebrity defeated World Access All-Stars 2 – 1, 100 Cars got past Excitement Boys 2 – 1, Spikeland United got past Bankers Trust 3 – 2 and Rising Bullets edged  Gunners 3 – 2.

Later in the night, Amelia’s Ward Young guns defeated Roraima All-Stars 1 – 0, High Stars needled Star Boys 1 – 0, Amelia’s Ward Regulars defeated Ball Raiders 2 – 0, Team 25 trounced  Cool Running 3 – 1 and Ruff Rangers got past Hustlers 3 – 2 in overtime.
