Math, science teachers to be recruited from abroad

Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon today announced that the way has been cleared for the recruitment of graduate teachers from overseas particularly for Mathematics and the science subjects but not solely those areas.

He made the disclosure this morning at his post-Cabinet news briefing at the Office of the President where he stated that the request to go that route had originated from the Ministry of Education.

According to Dr. Luncheon, there is an urgent need for teachers in those areas given their importance to development and the demand for the teachers was outstripping the rate at which they were exiting the tertiary institutions locally.

Remuneration, he added, would be in keeping with the established system used for other recruited professionals.
