Fast foreign boats for Bartica Regatta subject to heavy duty

Dear Editor,

Region 7 is a part of Guyana where you will see all races unite for our country’s Republic Day and other important events we celebrate as one people. It was heartening to see our children’s costume parade and our Mash parade on Sunday last. It was the biggest and brightest ever, and the people turned out in numbers.

Congratulations to the Regional Administration Region 7, Sunset Boulevard and Kamal’s Boutique and Cellphones, the Ministry of Health Region 7 and Banks DIH beachside bar. It was a tremendous success.

Regatta Power Boat Races is next in Region 7. This year we have more new foreign boats which our racers have purchased, which are much faster than the two already in Bartica. Two are on the wharf, and our main problem is duty, which is heavy. We were promised by a senior government official that if we purchased new foreign boats the engine duty would be waived. But the GRA is not budging. I do hope this letter catches the President’s eyes; we need his help to improve Regatta in Guyana. We ask the GRA not to pressure us racers. Put the pressure on the Regatta gates instead.

Yours faithfully,
Winston Miller Snr
