Injured West Indies and Trinidad and Tobago all rounder Dwayne Bravo will undergo surgery to his damaged knee in Australia next week.
Bravo has flown out to Australia to look after the injury and in a release late yesterday he indicated that he will spend the next month Down Under recuperating.
Bravo was helped off the pitch in the West Indies’ opening defeat to South Africa after collapsing in his follow-through. He follows Pakistan bowler Sohail Tanvir who recently visited Australia for an operation to his knee.
The energetic all rounder said prior to leaving for the World Cup that this was his team’s best chance of lifting the trophy in quite a while. He said he was looking forward to making his presence felt but sadly had to leave.
However, before he left he spoke to the team and told them of the importance of giving of their best and making up for the absence of injured players.
Fast bowler Kemar Roach immediately thanked Bravo, after his six-wicket burst against the Netherlands, saying he was very instrumental in getting him to perform at his best.
The West Indies have lost three players through injury at the World Cup, with opener Adrian Barath and wicket keeper Carlton Baugh leaving with hamstring injuries even before the tournament started.
