Police issue warning for residents of Tivoli Gardens

(Jamaica Gleaner) The police are warning that they will take action against residents of Tivoli Gardens in West Kingston if they continue to attack cops on patrol in the community.

In a release on Friday evening, the Police High Command said elements in Tivoli Gardens, especially those in the high-rise buildings, have been stoning police personnel and vehicles.

According to the high command, in the latest incident on Thursday night, an officer from the Mobile Reserve was injured while on duty in Tivoli Gardens.

The high command says the cop was hit several times in his chest with stones.

The police say so far, they have not responded with force to what they call the unprovoked attacks; however they say they will act if the situation continues.

The police have maintained consistent presence in Tivoli Gardens since May last year when there was a major operation to arrest then fugitive Christopher Coke.
