Gilhuys on bail over ‘accidental’ shooting

Former Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys, was yesterday released on station bail in connection with a shooting incident involving a member of the Western  Tigers Football club.

According to a police source, Gilhuys was released on $20,000 station bail on Saturday.

Midfielder Dwayne Ali, 31, was shot in the leg “accidentally” on Friday evening by the former magistrate at Hibiscus Street and Mandela Avenue in South Georgetown.

Ali told Stabroek News on Saturday that a fight had broken out between Gilhuys and another player and he intervened and was shot. He said he could not recall the circumstances under which the gun went off. The team had returned from a football match at Linden when the incident occurred.

Gilhuys gave a statement at the East Ruimveldt Police outpost on Saturday.
