Fire in prison cell ceiling quickly put out

Fire officials this afternoon managed to extinguish a fire that broke out in the ceiling of one of the cells in the Georgetown Prison before any major damage was caused, a senior fire official said.

The official said the area where the fire started is not easily accessible, stressing that from all appearances it was not deliberately set.

There are suspicions that the fire which started some time after 14:00 hours was electrical.

The official said fire officers are still on the scene conducting investigations.
