The body of an East Bank Demerara contractor was this morning found in Le Repentir Cemetery with two gunshot wounds to the back.
Confirmed dead is Carlos Persaud of Lot 6 Rams Canefield Drive, Friendship, East Bank Demerara.
Reports are that Persaud, who owned several trucks, left home about 17:30 hours yesterday for the city and was to return in an hour.
When he failed to return during the night, which was unlike him, his wife reported him missing to the police this morning.
The body was later found floating in a canal in the cemetery this newspaper was told.
A senior police officer said they are investigating the discovery of a man “with two gunshot wounds to the back”. The officer said that no other information was available and that police ranks were on the scene investigating.
It is unclear who discovered the body.
